Unwanted Tests

Why did the pizza bagels taste like plastic coming out of the oven?
Why did the self clean wall-oven go powerless halfway through the clean cycle leaving the the oven door locked and no way to access the control panel in the back?
Why did Maisie's clay art project break on the way home from school leaving her mug and heart shattered?
Why did the field day Molly's been talking about for weeks have to get cancelled due to the wet field.
Why is Maisie getting acne bumps on her chin at 11 years old?
Why is Ross obsessed with the word, 'anal'?

It's a good day... really.

I got a perfect camp spot reserved for this weekend at Pammel Park in Winterset.
I'm done with my 3rd, 5th and 7th class periods for the school year.
Goats are adorable.
Molly cooked spaghetti for the family tonight so I could make cabinet labels for my classroom.
A Winterset family needed size 7-8 girl clothes so Molly cleaned out her closet without hesitation.
Mack thinks he passed his American History final.
Our swimming lesson teacher is coming back from college to do another summer of lessons.
I don't need to use the wall oven anytime soon.
Did I mention Goats are adorable?

Sometimes all we need is a new perspective...

Sunday Frisco Burgers

Growing up Sundays in Long Grove seemed to include either Apple Pancake or Belgian waffles with whipped cream and canned cherry pie filling for breakfast. Breakfast was followed with coupon clipping, International Delight Capuchino and scanning Walgreens ads for ways to actually make money buying random medications and toothbrushes, before cleaning out the refrigerator leftovers and heating them up in the microwave when the boys came in from the woods for lunch followed by potentially going to Grandmas to sew so some sort of 4-H project.

I never really liked sewing.
The pin sticks, the salvage, the whip stitch, ironing the seams open, the empty bobbin and the seam ripper- I just didn't have the patience for these sort of things.  But there were a few years in there, I knew Grandma would take me to the Eldridge Hardee's for the new Frisco burger at lunchtime when we were sewing.
In the early 90's Hardee's made sewing with Grandma worth it.
Grandma explained to me numerous times, 'You can't work on an empty stomach.'
These were my bottomless-pit sixth grade years; and she clearly knew it.

But by 1996, I thought I'd sewn my last pair of curtains.  My last jumper and vest.  My last fashion review outfit.

Guess what I did last Sunday... and the Sunday before that?

Yep, here I am on a Sunday morning in May 2019.
Not a lick of make-up, fluffy-weird and unwashed morning hair- a look of determination to complete something asap on my face, and not a Hardee's Frisco burger in sight.

Turns out, I bought a motorhome and want to make it mine.
Curtains it is.
Furniture covers it is.
Pillows it is.
You name it- I got it covered.
I didn't know it at the time, but I wasn't just learning to wait patiently for Grandma to suggest Hardee's for lunch.
I was learning basic sewing skills she knew I'd need 30 years down the road.

The only thing that separates this photo of me last weekend, from me in 1991 is the short hair on my head, the scatter of sun spots on my cheek, the addition of creases around my eyes, the wedding band on my hand the the adorable face of my girl watching from the sideline.

She just knew I'd need her long before I did.

Journaling

I love that my girls "journal".  Makes me think G'funk's in 'em a bit.
Molly wants to sell her writings.
I told her I'd be the first to buy them from her.

Maisie Boyd 5-19-19

Today my family and I are going to the Keslers house today. We are bringing a pizza to eat at their new house. We are also going to take care of our goats, Sky and Willow. The goat sky will let you pet her and hold her. Willow will not let you hold her or pet her. I think willow won’t let us holder because she is scared of us. The goats found out how to escape the fence and got out.Our dog Goose was chasing the goats trying to eat them. I ran to get ross and the animals followed. As we tried to get the goats and goose, I noticed Molly was wearing our grandmas pants and called her granny pants. I laughed because she was trying to fight me it was a great time. Right now it is 11:37am and there is a song playing from ed sheeran I think it is called galway girl. I’m starting to get hungry for lunch so I will come back when I come back from the  house. I will tell you how it wKesler’sent.Time to eat lunch.

We got are goats one goat likes to be carried that one is named Sky and the other one does not like to be carried and it’s name is Willow and our dog tries to eat them and  my grandma came with our dog and we were laughing at her because she was walking our dog with two ropes it was funny. As you can tell, this weekend has been all about the goats.

Babies Are Here!

Well if this isn't enough to melt your heart....
 I'm a goat mom now.
I don't have a lot of words,
other than I'm feeling extremely blessed to experience the excitement and curiosity our kids felt getting Sky and Willow tonight.

They are crying for their mommas and missing their siblings.
Makes me want to swaddle them in a blanket and bring them into my bed while I rub their horns and hum them to sleep...

However,  Goose snuck into the house today during the thunderstorms and I discovered he pissed on the living room floor - so that loving thought doesn't last long...
 They were SO scared.

But these babies of mine have a love for nature I can't get enough of.
My heart is complete sludge tonight.

The Boyd's Nest

While camping at Ledges Saturday, I told Mike I wanted to name the Motorhome "The Boyd's Nest.

Let's face it, I'd already created a YouTube page titled "The Boyds Nest" a month ago in anticipation of including live footage of our adventures.

I'm not a huge bird fan, but Boyd's Nest just kinda works for a lot of reasons.

Mike wasn't so sure.
He needed to sleep on it.

Poor Mack is going to learn to drive a bus before he even takes drivers ed.
We sent the boys up the road for firewood with $5.

A little football followed.

By a couple hikes.

Then the fire was finally started.
Mack's always been drawn to the fire.

And by the time the sun went down, Mike agreed to calling the Motorhome "The Boyd's Nest".

Right after he discovered THIS sitting next to the electrical meter at our site... our first trip out... our first motorhome... our first adventure of hundreds...

Some things are designed by the stars...
The Boyd's Nest it is.
